MegaMatcher Automated Biometric Identification System

Turnkey multi-biometric solution for national-scale identification projects

MegaMatcher Automated Biometric Identification System is a complete system for the deployment of large-scale multi-biometric projects. The modular and customizable solution provides services for high-performance, scalable systems with multiple parallel transactions.

The solution is intended for national-scale projects, like biometric voter registration with records deduplication, passport issuing, border control, as well as other civil or criminal AFIS/ABIS.

Available as on-premise solution and as cloud service.

Reliability Tests for Biometric Template Matching

MegaMatcher Automated Biometric Identification System includes Matching Service component, which is based on MegaMatcher Accelerator technology. These fingerprints, faces and irises template databases were used for testing the reliability of the MegaMatcher Accelerator 11.2 template matching algorithm:

  • Fingerprints database is the SONATEQ Fingerprint Database SQ FDB1-75TS1 that contains 75,000 fingerprints collected with Cross Match Verifier 300 LC scanner. The database represents 1,500 unique persons with 10 fingerprints per person captured in 5 sessions. Neurotechnology's proprietary format was used for fingerprint template storage. The tests were performed with these biometric template types:
    • 1 fingerprint record – using left hand index fingerprint;
    • 2 fingerprint records – using right and left hand index fingerprints belonging to the same person;
    • 4 fingerprint records – using left hand slap fingerprints (index, middle, ring and little fingers) belonging to the same person;
    • 8 fingerprint records – using right and left hand slap fingerprints (index, middle, ring and little fingers) belonging to the same person;
    • 10 fingerprint records – using all 10 fingerprints belonging to the same person.
  • Faces database was created from Neurotechnology's internal face image collection. The face database contains 1,500 unique persons. Each person's face was captured in 5 sessions.
  • Irises database was created by merging iris images from BATH, Casia3 and ND-IRIS-0405 Iris Image Dataset. The irises from those 3 datasets were combined to represent 1,500 unique persons with left and right irises captured in 5 sessions. The tests were performed with these biometric template types:
    • 1 iris record – using left eye image;
    • 2 iris records – using both eye images belonging to the same person.

Multi-modal databases are combination of the mentioned fingerprint, face and iris databases. The databases represent 1,500 unique persons with 10 fingerprints, 1 face and/or 2 iris images per persons, depending on the biometric modalities combination. Each person's biometric data was captured in 5 sessions. The tests were performed with the biometric template types, that combined 1, 2, 4, 8 or 10 fingerprints, 1 face and 1 or 2 irises, belonging to the same person, in all possible multi-modal combinations.

Three tests were performed with fingerprints database:

  • Test 1 maximized matching speed. MegaMatcher Accelerator 11.2 algorithm reliability in this test is shown as red curves on the ROC charts
  • Test 2 used the default engine settings. MegaMatcher Accelerator 11.2 algorithm reliability in this test is shown as green curves on the ROC charts
  • Test 3 maximized matching accuracy. MegaMatcher Accelerator 11.2 algorithm reliability in this test is shown as blue curves on the ROC charts

Reliability testing results for the MegaMatcher Accelerator 11.2 template matching engines are shown as a receiver operation characteristic (ROC) charts. The ROC calculation was performed by comparing all templates from corresponding databases each to the other.

Note that the tests with these biometric template types resulted with 0 % FRR for all FAR values:

  • 8 and 10 fingerprints (all three tests);
  • all bi-modal fingerprints and faces combinations;
  • all bi-modal fingerprints and irises combinations, except 1 iris with 1 fingerprint;
  • all tri-modal fingerprints, face and irises combinations.
